serenity in a townhouse.

i love going on walks by myself on nights like tonight.

nights when the clear skies allow the moon to shine through cozy clouds and create a soft glow. nights when the crisp air stings your cheeks just right. there's a stillness, a silence so absolute, all i can hear are my own footsteps.
these nights seem magical to me.

what i love most about walking around at night is the ability to get a slight glimpse of everyone's lives. three steps and you hear the scraping of a chair against the floor and soft murmurs and clinks over a late dinner, four more steps and you strain to hear the meticulous practicing of a beautiful mozart piano concerto, two steps and a block of silence for the peaceful sleepers, five steps brings you to a yapping dog and a ticked off owner, three more steps and the timer signals the end of a victorious basketball game, cheering.

yes yes, this is possible in any neighborhood, townhouse or not. but what i think makes the townhouse experience more unique is the close proximity of everybody's worlds. whereas you might hear the discourse between an angry mother and her brooding teenager in one house, a mere stone throw away you hear laughter and happiness.

and my favorite part on these walks is the rare opportunity that i can see through a window (creepy much? yes.) i love seeing a couple/ family/ group sitting together. it looks so peaceful yaknow?

i love being an observer and thinking/ making up what i think is going on in their lives. haha, kinda silly but it's so interesting to imagine...
