this song always makes me want to cry.
i was watching a video where phil wickham was explaining the meaning behind the song and basically what he was saying was that he based it off the parable of the prodigal son and how it reminds him of how God's arms are always open to us, no matter how inadequate and flawed we are. even when we sin or outright turn away from Him, God waits for us.
he also described how he got to writing the song during a period of time where he was feeling like a prodigal son himself, where he was questioning whether it was God's plan that he be a worship leader and wondering whether he was worthy. in the end he realized that it wasn't about what he couldn't do but about what God could do. i quote: "its not about my lack, its all about God's abundance."
i really tried to wrap my mind around that because its tough to process. many times i find myself filled with thoughts of how i am so unworthy of x y or z but isn't it amazing that regardless, our God, an almighty god, waits for me?
so i just think this song is amazing. the image of us running back into God's arms is incredible.
